(Even if you use SmartDraw 2007)
Flowcharts—In SmartDraw 2008 they draw themselves!
With SmartDraw 2008 you no longer have to drag and drop symbols like you did before. Flowcharts now draw themselves based on your instructions.
Add flowchart symbols with the click of your mouse and watch them automatically connect to other shapes and line up perfectly. You can even build a flowchart using keyboard shortcuts.
As with every type of graphic, the first step in SmartDraw is to select the appropriate template. We'll pick flowchart.

The template opens and on the left you find the flowchart SmartPanel—your controls for automatic drawing.
The SmartPanel contains all of the essential commands you need to create a flowchart. SmartDraw 2008 has more 50 different SmartPanels, each designed specifically to create a particular type of graphic.

SmartDraw anticipates your needs. Note how a starting terminator shape is already prepositioned in the upper left just where it should be, ready for you to start. Through the SmartPanel you can add new shapes below, to the right, left or above. Select the type of shape you want to add and then click "add below" to add it.

A new shape appears below the terminator already connected with a line. No dragging, dropping, connecting or aligning. SmartDraw does the drawing for you so you can focus on your workflow.

Adding a second shape below is even easier. Just click the "add below" button again, or just hit the ENTER on your keyboard. Double clicking any symbol in the library will also repeat the command. With the keyboard shortcuts, you can add a whole sequence of shapes by simply typing.
Adding text is also easier. Click on the text tool in the SmartPanel, click the shape you want to add text to, and then simply start typing. Want to add text to other boxes? Hit the down arrow key on your keyboard to jump to the next shape, and just continue typing. You can fill in your entire flowchart just like form—using tab and arrow keys to move from shape to shape.
Re-arranging your chart is easier too. Move a shape from one position to another by simply dragging it. The lines take care of themselves.

You can even insert a step, and the positions of other shapes and the lines automatically connect and arrange themselves.
SmartDraw 2008 takes the busy work out of creating a chart so you can focus on the process you are documenting, and get your work done faster. You'll also get a nicer looking result. How smart is that?

Automatic Flowcharting. Just one of the real improvements, for real productivity in SmartDraw 2008. Another real reason to upgrade.
Too many improvements for just one email.
This email is the first in a series in which we'll examine, one by one, the top features and real improvements in the new SmartDraw 2008, compared to SmartDraw 2007 and earlier versions.
Over next few weeks I'll be covering the exciting changes we've made and how they can make your work easier and more productive.
In fact, the single overriding principle we focused on in developing 2008 was Productivity.
This week let's see how this applies to flowcharts. Later we'll take a closer look at we've improved:
Thank you for making SmartDraw 2008 such a success, and stay tuned.
