Billy Childress was studying for an ambitious degree at the University of Phoenix in Tampa, Florida: a Master of Science in Nursing and an MBA in Health Care Management. The dual degree provides medical professionals a unique blend of advanced nursing and business management skills needed to manage today's innovative health care deliver systems.
The rigorous coursework demanded that Childress create medical diagrams and flowcharts to complement his work. He found SmartDraw 2007 while searching on the Internet, but one of SmartDraw's technical support representatives suggested that he give the SmartDraw Healthcare Edition a try.
Although Childress had little graphic design background, he was able to create dozens of compelling, professional-quality posters for patient education, including a detailed cardiac diet poster, a cardiac monitor description, quality diagrams and much more. According to Childress, the results "caught the attention of all the class…the biggest question was how did I have time to do such a good paper and presentation."
According to Childress, SmartDraw was very user-friendly. Featuring more than 1,000 professionally-designed templates and more than 3,000 medical illustrations from Lippincott and Netter, the product is fast and easy-to-use for anyone creating anatomy diagrams, patient education charts and presentations. SmartDraw also includes libraries for highly-detailed anatomical images, medical procedures & conditions, EMS, nursing, and safety.
But the most important question remains: Did SmartDraw really save Childress that much time? He says, "Heck yes! Days of time." If SmartDraw hadn't been available, Childress would have been left with few alternatives. "I would have to use Windows based WORD®, which takes patience," he said.
His instructors and students are so impressed with the quality of his work, that several of them have bought the SmartDraw Healthcare Edition already. Childress continues to be an avid SmartDraw user, and champion its use in the healthcare field. "SmartDraw is a key tool for organizational charting, the flowcharting of procedures, and patient education diagrams."
