Creating patient education handouts
In Search of a Remedy
Ann Kopelson, a flight surgeon and general practioner with the U.S. Navy, was
looking for a medical graphics package to help her create patient education
handouts. She needed an easy-to-use program with detailed medical graphics,
and she needed it at a reasonable price.
Kopelson had tried a few other programs, but they left her wanting more.
"I used CorelDraw back in the 1980s, but this time around, I was looking for something different," said Kopelson. "And most other medical art programs out there are just not practical for patient handouts."
Kopelson searched the Internet, and found SmartDraw. She downloaded a free trial at www.SmartDraw.com.
What the Doctor Ordered
Kopelson was immediately impressed with both the volume and the variety
of medical graphics built-in to Smartdraw.
"I couldn't believe the large reservoir of medical graphics that SmartDraw offered," she said. "And the images were so detailed."
SmartDraw offers several thousand textbook-quality medical graphics and hundreds of templates that users can easily modify to suit their needs. This includes libraries for highly detailed anatomical images, medical procedures & conditions, EMS, nursing, safety, and much more. Overall, SmartDraw offers thousands of images, symbols, and templates to meet most any graphics need.
And SmartDraw's intuitive user-interface allowed Kopelson to get up and running right away. "I was able to start working without using any of the program's helpful tutorials or wizards," she said. "SmartDraw is very self-explanatory-and I am not software savvy!"
The Right Medicine
Kopelson now uses SmartDraw on a regular basis. "To date, I've created
numerous patient handouts on various topics, such as nutrition," she said.
"My patients are always surprised when I hand them a color handout
customized by their physician."
"It's neat, concise and to the point," said Dr. Miller. "And According to Kopelson, the program pays for itself by using just one graphic. "I was once quoted $500 for just one graphic," she said. "By developing my own handouts in SmartDraw, I am saving so much money."
Kopelson plans on using the tool for many future projects, including brochures, letterhead, and other marketing materials. "Having this tool, with its ease-of-use, makes me feel like a marketing pro. I am convinced SmartDraw is the best graphics tool out there!"
