Getting Started with Working Smarter

Regularly, I receive inquiries from both users and non-users of SmartDraw asking: “What’s the deal with Working Smarter? Is it a product blog, a corporate blog, or what?”

Actually, Working Smarter is neither of those things – sure, we show you how to do stuff with SmartDraw, like how to employ simple project management using mind maps and Gantt charts, but that’s not really the biggest point of emphasis for Working Smarter.

What’s Working Smarter about?

Here’s what we wrote on Working Smarter’s about page:

Working Smarter isn't about SmartDraw-at least not entirely. Working Smarter is about increasing productivity and becoming a better manager.

On the Working Smarter blog we cover general productivity and management concepts, such as general productivity, project management, time management, growing small businesses, and so forth.

In the future we may start developing Working Smarter content oriented for much more specific purposes, but for now we’re sticking with generalities.

Why is SmartDraw Writing about Productivity and Management?

Over the fifteen year history of SmartDraw its role has changed from a drawing tool to a productivity instrument capable of fulfilling a wide variety of business needs, particularly in the areas of communication and idea management.

Thus we’ve set Working Smarter in a direction that embraces the principles and applications of popular productivity and management concepts, and that’s what this blog is about.

Business graphics, like flowcharts, mind maps, Gantt charts, and so forth are natural implementations of many of these concepts, thus we feel that it’s important to share productivity and management philosophies in order to enable people to fully understand the utility of business graphics.
