Deployment charts show the various steps in a process as well as the people who are in
charge of accomplishing each step. They are very effective in organizing who is in charge
of different parts of a project.
Typical Uses
Deployment charts show who will be the primary worker on a specific part of a project as well
as who they can go to for assistance. These charts also show the order that a process should
occur and lays it out in an easy to understand simplistic overview. However, it does not
give specific detail into what each person must do for each step of the process.
Best Practices
- Determine the process. Decide what process you will be making the deployment charts for. Place the name of the process at the top of the page.
- Determine the steps in the process. Decide the pertinent steps in completing the process.
- Assign a team. Determine everyone who will be involved in the process.
- Create a table. Create a table with a row for each of the steps and a column for each of the people that will be working on the project. Place the name of each step in order down the side and place the names of each of the people working on it along the top.
- Clarify responsibility. In each box created clarify what each person is supposed to do. Some people will be assigned to work on a step in the process and others will be assigned to advise those working on various steps. Lines can also be drawn between tasks to show that they occur at the same time.
- Share. This diagram should be shown to each person involved in the process as it concerns each of them. It not only shows each individual's responsibilities, but also lays out the order of the tasks in a simplistic manner.
