Degrees of Burn First Degree Burn
affects epidermis. Skin will be red, swollen, painful, and sensitive to touch and usually heals in 1 to 2 days. Mild sunburn is a common 1st degree burn. Second Degree Burn
involves the epidermis and part of the dermis layer of skin. Skin will be painful, swollen, red, blistered, and/or be weepy/watery. Third Degree Burn
destroys the epidermis and dermis and may also damage the underlying bones, muscles, and tendons. Skin will be black and white and charred.
