One Month Before Moving Comments Schedule disconnection of all utility services at your old home, and connection of them at your new one. Be sure to disconnect the day after you leave and connect the day before you arrive. Make travel arrangements for your pets. Do not forget to include necessary medical and immunization records. Pick up a Change-of-Address Kit from the Post Office. Be sure to notify banks, insurance, credit card companies, doctors and past employer of your address change. Cancel local newspaper For full service moves: get estimates from several moving companies and check for items they won't move For do-it-yourself moves, make arrangements for truck rental and moving help, and buy packing supplies Start packing boxes. Mark boxes clearly as to contents and room to be placed in. Mark "Open First" clearly on boxes containing important items to be unpacked first. Moving Checklist 2 Weeks Before Moving Comments Contact your bank and/or credit union to transfer or close accounts. Clear out safety deposit boxes. Pack your vital documents in one place Confirm travel arrangements for pets and family. Confirm parking for your trailer Notify any creditors of your move Plan meals for the last week of the move to help empty the refrigerator Make arrangements to disconnect your utilities Arrange to have a sitter watch your children at their house on moving day Make arrangements for cleaning 1 Week Before Moving Comments Notify friends and family of your new address and phone number Properly dispose or drain any flammable items Moving Day Comments Get all keys together. Put in a safe spot. Check every room, closet and cabinet one last time before deciding everything is loaded. Make sure moving van driver has correct address, phone number and directions. Confirm delivery date with him. After the Move Comments Keep all receipts and documentation in your move file Get a new driver license and new tags for your automobile. Contact the local paper for a new subscription. If you have not received your security deposit, call your landlord to confirm your new address.
