Leukemia WHAT IS LEUKEMIA RISK FACTORS SYMPTOMS TREATMENT Leukemia is cancer of the blood cells. In a patient with Leukemia, the body (more specifically the bone marrow) produces abnormal white blood cells. The abnormal white blood cells are also referred to as leukemic cells. These leukemic cells do not function normally, and with time, crowd out the normal white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. Most Leukemia patients do not have any known risk factors, but factors that may increase the chances of Leukemia include:
