Relative Speed of Boats Example

SmartDraw includes Math & Physic examples like this Relative Speed of Boats template that you can easily edit and customize in minutes.

Text in this example:

Three boats cross a 5 km river perpendicular to the river bank. Each boat's nose always points straight at the opposite shore. There are also three observers on the river bank. Each observer is straight across from a boat (Boat A is straight across from Observer A, etc.) The river's current flows at 3 km/hr.
Given each boat's speedometer reading (the boats all travel at a constant speed), what is the relative speed of the boat with respect to the water?
When the boats reach the far shore, what is the entire displacement of each boat with respect to the person standing on the bank (compare Boat A with Observer A, Boat B with Observer B, etc)? RELATIVE SPEED - BOATS CROSSING A RIVER 5 km Current
Vcu = 3 km/hr Boat A
Va = 3 km/hr Boat B
Vb= 6 km/hr Boat C
Vc= 5 km/hr Observer A Observer B Observer C
