Adding Boxes
John Smith has a secretary, Judith Jones. To add her, select John Smith's box and click
Add Assistant in the Add Shapes group of SmartPanel.
Then type her name and title in the new box as before.

Labeling the CEO Position
Jack Green and Jennifer Martin are Co-Vice Presidents of the Marketing Department, and
both report directly to John Smith. To add them, click on the Employee 1 box, click
Add Co-Manager in the Add Shapes group of SmartPanel,
and label their boxes appropriately.
Adding a Co-Manager
Within the marketing department, Richard Johnson, the Web Manager, reports directly to the
Co-Vice-Presidents. To add Richard Johnson, click on either of the Co-VPs' boxes, click Add
Employee Below in the Add Shapes group of SmartPanel,
and add his name and title to the box.
Adding a Subordinate
Richard Johnson has several web designers working under him. For this particular org chart,
we will leave the names unlisted; simply add a box below Richard Johnson by selecting
Richard Johnson's box, clicking Add Employee Below, and labeling it "Web Designers."
Adding More Subordinates
There are three more people who report directly to the Marketing Co-VP's: the Art Director
(Grant Hill), Business Development Manager (Deborah Chan), and Product Manager (Harry
Russell). To quickly add all three, click on Richard Johnson's box, then click
Add Employee to the Right three times, once for each person (the label changes
to Add Employee (Next)).
SmartDraw automatically positions branches so that the Org Chart is compact and organized.
In this case, the Marketing subordinates are placed in a column rather than a row.
Adding Several Equal Subordinates
Let's now add the other Vice Presidents to this chart. Select the Employee 2
box to the right of the Marketing team and label it "Mary White, Vice President Sales."
Next, label the Employee 3 box "Jerry Black, Vice President IT." Your org
chart should now begin to look like the image below.
Adding More Top-Level Managers
At this point, you would normally continue adding associates to your org chart, but it
uses the same procedure as that which we have covered, so we will now move on to formatting
the org chart as if we had finished it.
