Tips for Creating Effective Organization Charts
1) The design of your org chart should reflect the personality of your
organization. Vertical charts emphasize hierarchy, while horizontal
charts, or charts that omit the connector lines, de-emphasize it.
An inverted chart makes a statement about the importance of those
at the bottom.
2) The size of the box should reflect the rank of the office. Boxes lower in the tree should be smaller than (or equal to) those at the top. All boxes at the same level should be the same size.
3) The size of the box should reflect the rank of the office. Boxes lower in the tree should be smaller than (or equal to) those at the top. All boxes at the same level should be the same size.
4) For a functional org chart, include each person's responsibilities and add informal lines of communication (using dashed lines) to reflect the complex realities of interaction within the organization.
5) You can focus on a subsection company by drawing a partial organizational chart.
6) Create a polished chart by adding graphics or photos.
7) SmartDraw makes it easy to share your organizational chart with others in a business presentation or on the web.
When you paste your chart into another program (such as PowerPoint®), you can edit it by simply double-clicking on the chart in the other program. This automatically opens the chart in SmartDraw for editing, and your changes will be updated in the other program automatically.
