How to Use Layers to Make Answer Keys

You can put the answers to your quiz or worksheet on a separate layer so that you can quickly hide them to print out the handouts. Then when you are ready you can reveal them again to print out an answer key. Don't waste your time deleting, adding text, and deleting again!

Add the answers as a final step; your handout
should otherwise be complete.

On the Page tab, click Layers and choose New Layer. A good name for this new layer is "Answers", so type this into the dialog that appears, and uncheck Visible. Then, click OK.

There will now be two Layer Tabs at the bottom of the Work Area, labeled "Answers" and "Default", which contains your handout.

Right now, "Answers" is selected, so add text wherever an answer should be. Click "Default" and notice that the answers
disappear!
