Disorder & Disease Diagram

Disorder and Disease Diagrams are posters or flyers that typically depict an image of the body part which is affected by a disorder or disease. This image is generally labeled with anatomy points and a brief explanation of how the disorder or disease affects the part.

Typical Uses

Disorder and Disease Diagrams are used to explain the physical effects of a disease or disorder. They can usually be found as posters on the walls of doctors' offices, but they may also be used on flyers or in textbooks. Diagrams can show, through images and charts, what could not otherwise be understood unless by extensive studying or explanation.

Best Practices
  • Determine the purpose. Decide what disease or disorder the diagram is to depict.
  • Title. Place a brief description including the name of the disease or disorder and the body part pictured at the top of the page in a way that will draw attention and leave no doubt in the reader's mind of the topic on which the diagram is focused.
  • Create the diagram. The diagram may be created in a number of different ways. An image of the area affected by the disease may be used to show its effect on the location. Alternatively, actual photos or before and after images may be applied.
  • Add information. Label any pertinent information, as well as some anatomical labels as reference for the viewer.
  • Place the diagram. The diagram should be placed in an area where it will be seen by those who need to see it most. Whether on a poster or pamphlet it should be in a location that is easily accessible.
