HOW TO DRAW NETWORK DIAGRAMS

Opening a Network Design Template
When you start SmartDraw, you'll see the New Document dialog. Here you can choose from a wide selection of network design SmartTemplates to begin your drawing with just the right libraries, settings, and SmartPanels.

Find the Correct Symbol or Device
If the default library that opens with your SmartTemplate doesn't contain the devices and symbols you're looking for, you can do a search to find more. In the SmartPanel, click the Library Selector for the Add Shapes group and select More....

In the More Symbols dialog box you can search for a particular symbol or browse through the categories.

Every SmartDraw library contains keywords that describe its contents. In addition to searching through the symbol names, the SmartDraw search engine searches through these keywords as well.

Type a key word in the Search box of the More Symbols dialog box and click the Search button.

Once the search is completed, the matching libraries are shown below the search box.

Search Tips
Knowing how the SmartDraw search engine works will help you get better search results.

• If you enter a phrase or a series of words separated by commas, the SmartDraw search engine will look for libraries that contain any of the entered words, but not necessarily all of the words. The search interprets multiple terms as terms divided by or not and. For example, if you search for Sun workstations, you will get matches both for the word sun and for the word workstations.
• The search is not case-sensitive.
• The search engine will find partial matches as long as the keyword or name of a symbol begins with the search word. For example, if you looked for the term form, you will also find matches for formula and forms, but not for the word perform.

Opening a Library
As you move your cursor over a library, a preview window appears helping you browse through SmartDraw's collection of symbols and devices.

You can open a library by double-clicking on it or clicking the Open Library or OK button in the More Symbols dialog box.

Adding a Symbol to Your Drawing
In the Library tab, click the Add Symbols Library Selector and choose a library. The symbols in that library will appear in the Gallery below.

Click on a symbol in the gallery, then click again in the page where you would like to add the symbol.
