Adjusting Connector Spacing
The automatic connector line is a powerful tool. Using a number of
growth and adjustment handles, you can create a precise and
compact organizational chart.
Normally, the automatic connector maintains even spacing between the edges of all shapes attached to it. The width of these spaces is controlled using the grow handles at each end of the main connector line.
To change the spacing between shapes, select the connector, move your mouse over the grow handle until you see the horizontal resizing cursor, and then drag the grow handle to expand or shrink the connector spacing.
Uneven Spacing
You can also change the spacing between individual
shapes using the adjustment handles. The adjustment handles
appear as white diamonds on the main line near the stem of each
shape.
For example, if a person or division in your chart has more subordinates than another, uneven spacing between the branches will create a better looking chart.
Resizing the Stems
You can also adjust the stem length—the distance between the shapes
and the main line—by clicking and dragging on the grow handles
located where the stem meets the shape.
By adjusting the length of the main line and the stems, you can make your organizational chart more compact.
