Say you work for Jerry Black, Vice President of Information Technology at ABC, Inc., and are the project manager for a special projects team of IT professionals. A hypothetical chart may appear as the one below.

You now understand how to create org charts using SmartDraw. This one is created slightly differently, but based on the same principles of using the SmartPanel, so it should prove to be a simple task. If SmartDraw is closed, launch it by double-clicking the SmartDraw icon. If SmartDraw is already open, simply click the SmartDraw button in the top left corner, click New, select Org Charts, and select a Blank Project Team SmartTemplate. The Work Area opens with a single Project Team box in the center.
Begin by labeling this box "ABC, Inc. Special Projects Team." Left-click the box and simply begin typing. Since we know there are several team members, each with a differing level of responsibility, we can add the subordinates in one layer at a time, beginning from the center moving outward.
While the "ABC, Inc. Special Projects Team" box is still selected, click Add Team/Department from the Edit group of SmartPanel five times. As you click, you should notice how quickly the team members are added and how everything is arranged symmetrically. Keep in mind how this chart has three supervisory members on the right (Lead Designer, Lead Developer, and Lead QA Engineer) and two on the left (Lead Engineer and Technical Editor).
