Create parking plans with the help of parking lot templates you can easily modify.
Start with a Parking Plan template. In SmartDraw, you can find parking plans under the Floor Plans - Commercial category after selecting New Document on your Dashboard. We suggest you start with the template named Parking Garage. It will give you access to all the relevant libraries and tools you'll need to complete your design.
Use Units & Scale under Page to define the scale you want to use. You can set and change this scale at any time. SmartDraw has a set of built-in standard engineering, architectural, and metric scales, and you can even set your own custom scale as needed.
Drag-and-drop parking stalls and striping outlines from the libraries docked next to your drawing area. You can add parking stalls one at a time, or better yet, add a complete row of 10 or 5 spaces. SmartDraw has pre-designed rows for both angled and perpendicular spots. You can even choose between standard width or wider stalls.

Most parking lot designs have standard dimensions and angles. Perpendicular stalls are usually 9 feet wide and 18 feet deep and require a 24-foot two way aisle to allow for cars to pull in and out. Angled stalls are usually set to 60 degrees and require a narrower 18-foot aisle that is restricted to one way to match the angle of the spots.
Any parking design should consider sloping to deal with water runoffs safely and preventing pooling.
Create curbed islands or medians that can add landscaping for providing shade and also offer safety for pedestrians. Mark crosswalks clearly and add speed bumps if necessary.
